Women in Cardiology Mentoring Award

To qualify for this Scientific Sessions 2023 award, you must meet the following deadlines:

  • June 7, 2023 – Deadline to have an active AHA membership with the sponsoring Council.
  • June 14, 2023, 6 p.m. CT – Deadline to apply for Scientific Sessions 2023 awards in the Council Awards System.

The Women in Cardiology Mentoring Award recognizes individuals who have an outstanding record of effectively mentoring women cardiologists and underscores the importance of mentoring in the professional development of women. The honoree will be acknowledged at the annual Council Dinner at Scientific Sessions in November.

Evaluation Criteria

Men and women are eligible for nomination. Each nominee will be considered based on his or her history of mentoring women cardiologists as well as his or her overall record towards the professional development of women in cardiology. An active Professional Member account with the American Heart Association by the nominee is strongly encouraged but not mandatory for nomination.

How to Apply or Make a Nomination

Please see the individual award information pages below for specific documents required when submitting an application or nomination file. Awards requiring an abstract must be submitted to an AHA Scientific Meeting before the online submission site abstract deadline. Your abstract control number will be needed on the award application form.

The nomination file should contain the following documents in PDF format:

  1. A letter of nomination specifically addressing the candidate’s contributions in effectively mentoring women cardiologists. Provision of the names of individuals mentored by the nominee is encouraged.
  2. Nominee’s curriculum vitae
  3. List of mentees and current positions
  4. Up to three optional letters of support from mentees

 

Prize

The award will be presented at the annual Clinical Cardiology Council Dinner at the AHA Scientific Sessions in November. The winner will receive:

  • Complimentary registration to Scientific Sessions
  • Hotel accommodations for one night
  • Engraved plaque
  • Complimentary council dinner ticket and presentation of a plaque at the annual council dinner
